Gunshots Damage Lewiston Library

Lewiston police say shots were fired Sunday night from Park Street Alley behind City Hall. Several bullets struck the Lewiston Public Library, damaging some windows. Police say they do not have any suspects in the case yet but do have persons of interest.

Auburn Woman Allegedly Sold Drugs from Lewiston Motel

An Auburn woman remains in the Androscoggin County Jail on $50,000 bail for multiple drug and weapons charges. 27-year-old Jacinta Hunt was arrested Thursday. Agents with the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency say Hunt was selling cocaine and heroin from a Lewiston motel room.

Downtown Lewiston Earth Day Gaining Momentum

Organizers for this Saturday's first Downtown Lewiston Earth Day say the modest trash pick-up and art creation event has spread throughout the city. Officials credit social media for the event's popularity. Hundreds of volunteers are now expected at cleanup efforts at Sunnyside Park, the Riverwalk, along Lisbon Street, and in other areas.

Weekend Rumford Fire Still Under Investigation

Firefighters in Rumford say an apartment fire over the weekend likely started because someone was smoking. Flames broke out Saturday night at a 12-unit building on Waldo St. In a Monday report, officials say the official cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Man Sought in Pot Throwing Incident

Wilton police are searching for a man they say threw a bag of marijuana into a Birch St. apartment and then fled down Depot St. Investigators say the man approached the home Saturday around 6 p.m. When he was not allowed inside, he allegedly threw the bag of pot through the door and tried to force his way in before running off.

Former Vice President Biden to Address Colby Graduates

Colby College's commencement next month will be keynoted by former U.S. Senator and Vice President Joe Biden. The ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, May 21, 10 a.m. on the lawn of Miller Library. School officials say the event is open to the public as long as it remains outside. In case of inclement weather, the event will move indoors and require a ticket for admission.

Library Added to National Register of Historic Places

The North Monmouth Library served its community from the mid-1920s until 2014, when it closed to the public. Since then, the Monmouth Museum has worked to restore the property, including a new roof and yellow paint reminiscent of its original coloring. The Sun Journal reports that the library is now on the National Register of Historic Places.
