DHHS Document Issues Lead to Dismissals

The trial of a Lewiston man accused of welfare fraud is delayed a fourth time after a judge dismisses 13 of the 15 charges against him. Attorneys for 47-year-old Abdi Hassan claimed that employees for the Maine Dept. of Health and Human Services improperly filled out welfare benefits forms for Hassan. Hassan still faces two unrelated fraud charges.

Lewiston Man Jailed in Somerset Co. for Sex Crimes

The Somerset County Sheriff's Office says 61-year-old William Heiser is accused of assaulting a now-16 year old victim in Pittsfield between 2009 and 2012. The alleged victim now lives in Vermont, where she told school health officials about the incidents.

Zach Black with the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society stopped by the Breakfast Club with Beau the Beagle. Black talked about options for pet owners if they have to surrender an animal. Listen. Leeds Man Arrested for Brandishing Firearm During Argument

Livermore Falls police say 29-year-old James Smith, Jr., pulled out a handgun during an argument early Sunday morning at a Pine Ridge Loop home. Smith was found and arrested a short time later for reckless conduct and illegal possession of a firearm. He remains in the Androscoggin County Jail.

Hope Fading in Search for Missing Boater

Stephen Wines was last seen Friday night when he fell from a boat into the Androscoggin River while fishing with his brother William. William tells WCSH6 that he tried to bring Stephen to shore for about 30 minutes. William let go when Stephen's body became too heavy and threatened to drown them both. Crews plan to continue the search today.

Missing 5-Year-Old Found Safe in Acton

The York County Sheriff's Office says a 5-year-old boy disappeared while hiking with relatives off Hussey Hill Rd. in Acton Sunday night. A Maine Search and Rescue unit located the boy unharmed several hours later about a half-mile from where he went missing.

Missing Portland Man Returns Home Unharmed

Police in Portland found out Monday that 39-year-old Benvindo Nzau returned home over the weekend. Nzau reportedly has mental health issues and was seen in early April in Wales telling people he was trying to get to Canada. Investigators are so far unsure of where Nzau went during his absence.

New England Gas Prices Creeping Downward

The website GasBuddy.com shows Maine's weekly average price for a gallon of unleaded gas costs $2.31, down nearly 2 cents-per-gallon from last week and more than 5 cents from last month. The average price in Androscoggin County sits just under the state average at $2.29.
